Journey to Israel 2008

Continuation of the mainpage 2008 touched by...:

On Dec 4th,2008 I finally flew together with a travel group by way of Antalya/Turkey to Israel.

On the way to the airport I quickly shot this photo. Out of its middle a whale is looking at me with an opened mouth (may not be recognized by everyone). Jona’s whale?

Should I have traveled to Israel earlier?

Did this have to do with the heraldic animal of my island? I did have a prayer item in tow for my town.

We had the best weather for flying and I was seated on my seat of preference.

Isaiah43,1 ff always has had a deep meaning for  me. Especially the prompt to not be afraid!

5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east (sunrise) , and gather thee from the west (sundown);

6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;

7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

Safety controls were said to be strict. So what did I need to think about? There was some information for us as a group, so we could speedily complete our program. To combine safety and hospitality is surely not easy.

It was getting dark already when we arrived at our hotel in Jerusalem. With its name we were welcomed by a radiating SHALOM. We had arrived without any incidents. Nothing had prevented our arrival here and it was still time of ceasefire, which Israel honored. Who would have known that in June when we booked, how things were going to be in December? Thank God, who gives ceasefires and successes.

The tour guide offered us an evening tour through the city with panorama from the Mount of Olives. No Dome of the Rocks for a change- (well I took a photo of that too), but the moon, the loyal witness.

Psalm 89

35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.

36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.

37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah. (American version)

God listens for 24 h…the western wall is also opened: 24/7

Psalm 121,4 , 4.12.08

We had enough time to also go to the Western Wall. The atmosphere was awing and impressive. With a little waiting time, I got access to wall and I could put my hands to it. I felt to lay both my hands on the wall… and to pray, as I had intended, for my city… my ancestors… Had I done it right? Unrest besought me and I layed my forehead to submit my head and all tension dissolved in tears… Psalm 126
